Wedding Bells ............

I seem to have lost any enthusiasm for doing anything much since my friends left at the weekend - legacy of a good week I think.  I've been doing a bit of doodling and painting but I think most of it will end up in the bin!

I thought I would share this card I made for a special wedding which was on Saturday.   Paulien shared this wonderful card with us on Swirlydoos a couple of weeks ago and I knew I just had to make it for my cousin's daughter and her husband to be.  A lovely shape as it just stands on its own, but a bit of a dilemma to post!  But it did arrive safety.

Hopefully my enthusiasm will return shortly ................. it is not as if I don't have things to do .............. !

Hope you are all having a good week and thanks for looking.

Lovely Ladies ...........

Here is a sneak peak of my last project at the Artistic Stamper Creative Team Blog. If you want to see the whole project (and I hope you do !!), click the link HERE.

I have had a wonderful time creating these projects and have really appreciated all your wonderful comments both on my blog here and over at the Artistic Stamper.  Thank you Jennie for inviting me and also Emma for all your help.

I am now back from the lighthouse having had a FABULOUS week with my friends.  Lots of walking, laughter, reminiscing, fantastic weather ......... and probably too much gin and wine!  But a great time and loads of photographs for scrapbooking and memories for journalling, so I am now looking forward to getting back into the swing of things again.

Have a lovely day everyone x

The Art of Subtraction .....................

A very short post to share some "journal style art" I've been doing with Catherine Scanlon-Matthews at My Creative Classroom.  This week on the course Journal to Art, we have been doing finger painting and tried the art of subtraction - sounds difficult, no!

I am really quite taken with the the art of subtraction - laying lots of lovely colours on paper ..............

Then when the paper is dry looking for shapes within the colours which you can then "subtract", painting white paint or gesso in the negative spaces.  With me so far ...........

Anyway this is a really fun course and I have found that I love this style of art journalling

Tomorrow my four fabulous schoolfriends arrive here in Shetland (from Switzerland, France and Suffolk, England) and we are staying in a Lighthouse for the week, enjoying each other's company and hopefully doing some interesting walks around Shetland's coastline.  We have an absolutely fabulous boat trip lined up for Monday - watching seals, orcas (killer whales) and the fabulous birdlife on the cliffs of Bressay.

And guess what - it has stopped raining and the sun has just come out.  BRILLIANT!!

Have a wonderful week everyone! x

Compendium of Curiosities II - Faded Layers

Another week and another challenge from Linda at Studio L3 from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities Volume II ............ Faded Layers.  I love this technique and have also been able to use the new fabulous seasonal distress inks - Shaded Lilac and Peakcock Feathers.  I think that Dusty Concord and Broken China have now been knocked off their pedestal!

I wanted a simple card for my friend and fellow guitarist and singer at church on Sundays who tomorrow undergoes a serious operation.  I think she will like these colours.  (It is stuck down squarer than it looks in the photograph, although things have not been quite the same since I got my new varifocal glasses!).

I made another piece using the same colours and made this into a card for a family member whose birthday is coming up shortly.

I can't tell you how to do the technique but I can tell you it is on page 43 of the book and a very good book it is too!  And it is amazing how many different ways everyone has used this technique, so it is worth hopping over to Studio L3 to see Linda's fabulous tag and the other entries.

Thanks for looking!

Vintage Plastic .......

A quick post today to share four fridge magnets I made using some leftover cardstock, text paper and Crafty Individuals pictures.  I recycled some plastic packaging with alcohol inks and it looks very effective.

Thanks for looking and have a lovely day.

Doodling .........

I am doing an art journalling course with Catherine Scanlon at My Creative Classroom and our assignments this week are to create largish page doodles using only a pen (these are 11.5" x 8.5").  I have not done anything like this before, but Catherine gave us some ideas for shapes which this first one is based on.

This second one is a more my own, although I have been following some art journalling blogs and did get some ideas for some shapes.

It is VERY addictive!!  and I can't wait to start getting colour on it (mustn't run before I can walk!) As we have snow at the moment (yes !! ) it has been lovely to be tucked inside warm doing something completely different.

Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend - hopefully you are all having better weather than us.

Going for Gold ........

I am a now and then member of the Shetland Guild of Embroiderers, mainly because I am not good with a needle and anything fiddly.  My needlework school report in the late 60s described me as a great plodder!  But I was really amazed to see some of the mixed media work at their last exhibition along with an amazing array of quilts and 3D sewn and felted work.  A number of members in the Guild have encouraged me to enter a piece in this year's competition the theme of which is Going for Gold ..... (and it didn't have to celebrate the Olympics).

This is a small array of mixed pieces - lace, paper, marram paper, cardstock, scrim and a piece of carpet base (no idea where I got that from!), sewn onto a Calico base.  There is a bit of stamping, but it got a bit hidden.  Then a bit of free style machine embroidery, the flowers being painted with Koh-in-Noor watercolours which amazingly worked!  And finally a bit of embossing (a cork washer), gold thread and some seed beads. No real design, quite small, but I had alot of fun doing it.

Again thanks for looking and I hope you all have a great weekend.

Compendium of Curiosities II : Marbled Stains

The lovely Linda over at Studio L3 has chosen Marbled Stains for Challenge No. 3.  This weekly challenge posted every Friday by Linda celebrates the techniques and products of Tim Holtz's book Compendium of Curiosities Volume II.

I cannot share the technique with you but you will find the details on page 46 of the book.  I have been getting to grips with this technique since doing Tim's online Creative Chemistry course but it does seem to work better on my white tags rather than the buff ones.  I would really encourage you to click the link and have a look at the wonderful card made by Linda and the other fantastic entries in this challenge.

Yet again I have used the Broken China/Dusty Concord combination.  I really must get going with my life and move away to some other wonderful combination!  I have kept the card quite flat in order to lesson the cost of postage and apart from the tag the rest is made from small pieces from my (wildly overflowing) bits and pieces box.

Thank you for looking and have a lovely day.

A is for ...........

I thought I would share a couple of ATCs I made recently for our local swap here in Shetland.  Polly (who runs Nimble Fingers in Lerwick) has come up with some lovely themes for the year and April was "A is for ............"

I really love these Crafty Individuals fashion stamps - it is the child in me still that loves colouring in !

And a bit of a whimsical one using the wrinkle free distress technique on glossy card - one of my favourite techniques at the moment.

We keep hearing of the terrible weather in England at the moment, yet up here in the very very north of Scotland we have had four wonderful spring days.  This was the view I woke to this morning:

Taken at 7.30 am in my PJs from the garden.

 Aren't we lucky!

Have a lovely day!
